When it comes to features on cars, there are a lot of useful features, while on the other side, there are some features that are present as a gimmick. In this article, we give you nine clever features found on Indian cars that you probably didn’t know about. When we say Indian cars, we are referring to cars that are on sale in India and not the cars that are made by Indian manufacturers. We classify clever features as something that helps you do better or, in some cases, that are present as a backup in case of failure, and sometimes they are useful when you least expect them to be.
UV-cut glass
Now, after the ban of film tints on windows, it isn’t easy to find a cooling solution, and one of them is the UV-cut glass which is available at a premium price. This means you have to spend a little extra on an aftermarket accessory after purchasing your car. But on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, they offer the UV cut glass as default for the top-end model and as an option for the lower models. This helps in reducing the heat transferred into the cabin, thereby reducing the load on the Air Conditioner, and this increases the fuel economy considerably.
Blinking Tail lamps in case of emergency
I am assuming many of you didn’t know this, but this is a very clever feature found in an Indian car. Supposedly, your indicators stop working due to some issues, there is a feature in the VW Polo and Vento which allows the entire rear light to blink like the indicator to alert the vehicles behind you. This is one of the features that we told you are clever because of the backup they provide in case of a technical issue.
Remote Window roll-up/down
This feature might be available in many other cars now, but we remember the VW Polo having this clever feature by default. This is a feature where a long press on the unlock button after unlocking your car rolls down all the windows, and they roll up when you long-press the lock button. This is very helpful when you spot one or two open windows as you walk away from your car, and you can roll them up from a distance instead of unlocking the car, getting in it, pressing the buttons and then locking the car again.
Cool Start
This feature is available in the Toyota Innova Crysta, and the cool start feature makes sure that when the AC is turned ON, the system will not turn on the blower until the cabin is cooled. To be more clear, in other cars, when the AC is turned ON, the rear vents are just activating the blowers and pass on the cool air from the front, but on the Innova Crysta, the AC vents function in such a way that all of them are in AC mode until the cabin is cooled and only after some time, they start the blowers. This is very helpful in the hot summers of India for sure.
Emergency Assistance Systems
Thankfully this feature is being seen on more cars, and it is a lifesaver, to say the least. This feature is the emergency assistance system and will be available as the SOS button either on the dashboard or, more commonly, on the IRVM. The emergency assistance feature calls the manufacturer’s emergency response team in case of an accident, who then inform the ambulance as well as the nearest police station. In some cars, the feature is auto-enabled, so the user does not even have to press the button in case of an accident as the system detects the crash and automatically calls the response team. This is one of the best clever features found on Indian cars and needs to present on almost all of them.
Curve Guidance in Hyundai Cars
This is a feature that will be of tremendous help on mountain roads or in foggy conditions. Hyundai Creta and the Verna offer a curve guidance system that gives an audio warning to the driver when there is a curve approaching. It is handy in circumstances where there is low visibility by alerting the driver of a curve ahead. The best part is that this feature works even when the navigation is not being used. Now that is a clever feature found on an Indian car.
Automatic Hazard Lights
The hazard lights are very important, especially during the night, and they can be used for many reasons. One such reason is when there is a panic braking situation, the car behind you can only know that you are slowing down because the taillights are ON, but they will never know how quickly you are slowing down, and he has to be more alert. In this situation, turning ON the hazard lights will alert the drivers behind you that there is something wrong, and they will make sure they slow down quickly too in order to avoid a mishap. Cars these days have a system that detects the panic braking situation based on the deceleration and turn on the hazard lights automatically.
Smart Trunk
Imagine you have your hands full and are carrying bags that you need to load into the trunk of your car, and you are doing this alone because you are the workhorse in the family. You approach the car, and you have to reach your pant pockets to unlock it, but you can’t do it without keeping the bags on the ground. This might not sound much like a hassle initially, but when you experience the smart trunk feature in cars like the Hyundai Verna and Elantra, then you will start missing it the most. This, of course, works only with the keyless entry keyfob, and when you stand within 1 metre of the trunk for more than 3-4 seconds, it will automatically open the trunk. Now you can load the bags without the hassle we mentioned before. If this doesn’t qualify to be a clever feature, we don’t know what else will.
Auto-dimming Instrument Cluster
This feature is now being available on more Indian cars, and it is indeed very clever. After dusk, when you turn ON the headlights, the instrument cluster reduces the brightness so that it does not cause strain on your eyes with high brightness, especially when it is dark everywhere else. Some vehicles even reduce the brightness of the infotainment system, interior lights like the ones on the AC controls etc. This helps even more if the entire instrument cluster is digital, which is getting more common these days.
