10 easy snacks you can make at home to munch on

The coronavirus lockdown has turned a lot of us into Master Chefs. All thanks to the extra time on our hands. While some people are being forced to learn the basics of cooking, others are further honing their skills. Internet is also flooded with amazing recipes to help people cook meals for themselves. But wait, what about the snacks?

With the home-quarantine thing, the urge to keep munching something or the other has simply doubled. Hasn't it? Boredom and being at home often does that to people.

So, here is a list of 10 easy snacks that you can make at home to take care of your constant urge to munch on something. Right from healthy chana chaat to cheesilicious mozzerella sticks, there is something for everyone.

Maggi Masala Fox Nuts

Fox nuts AKA makhanas are loaded with health benefits. And to turn them into a yummy snack, you just have to roast them in ghee for one to two minutes. Put them in a box and sprinkle Maggi Masala. Mix well and voila, it is ready.

By the way, you can simply sprinkle salt and pepper or oregano or even chaat masala, as per your taste preference.

Roasted Chiwda

Bored of eating poha the regular way? Well, we tell you how to turn it into a yummy namkeen. Doing so is super easy. Just heat a little oil in a pan. Add some peanuts and roast them for a minute. Now, add a handful of dry poha flakes (chiwda) and stir till they turn crispy. It should not take more than two to three minutes. Turn off the flame and sprinkle salt and black pepper. You can also use peri-peri masala or chaat masala for flavour.

Namak Pare

Indians love their evening cup of tea with Namak Paare on the side. And making these crunchy savouries is not a daunting task either. All you gotta do is, knead a firm dough. You can use maida or whole wheat. But before you start kneading, add a bit of ajwain, salt, ghee and sooji to the flour. Mix them well in a bowl and knead using water.

Once the dough is ready, pinch out a small ball. Roll it into a flat sheet. It should neither be too thick nor very thin. Now, cut it into small rectangles using a knife. Deep fry these pieces in hot oil until they turn golden brown in colour. Take them out on a tissue paper that will soak the excess oil. Serve with hot tea.

Wai Wai Sadeko

Sadeko is a Nepali dish, which is more like a salad. But to give it a munching twist, we combine it with yummy Wai Wai noodles. Break the Wai Wai noodles cake into small pieces and put in a bowl. Now, add chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilli and coriander leaves. Squeeze a bit of lemon. Add the taste enhancer and give all the ingredients a good mix. Your Wai Wai Sadeko is ready to be relished.

By the way, don't worry if Wai Wai is not available. You can use Maggi or any other instant noodles. You just need to fry them in oil before using them for Sadeko.

Bhelpuri

"Main to raste se jaa raha tha, main toh bhelpuri kha raha tha." Well, we are not sure about 'raste se jaa raha tha' because stepping out is cancelled, but you can definitely eat bhelpuri at home.

Take some puffed rice in a big bowl and add chopped onions, tomatoes and green chillies. Add some sev or aloo bhujia. Sprinkle salt, red chilli, chaat masala. Add a bit of imli chutney, if available, or else you can skip it. Lastly, add some lemon juice and mix all the ingredients well.

Fried Onion Rings

Slice onions and separate them into onion rings. Now, put some gram flour in a bowl. Pour some water and mix well. The consistency of the batter should not be thin. Add salt and red chilli, and give it a good mix again. Dip onion rings in the batter and deep fry in hot oil until they turn golden brown in colour.

French Fries

While you will have to wait to eat French Fries from your favourite food joint, here we give you an easy recipe to make them at home. Slice a potato and then cut into sticks. Put these sticks in cold water for around 30 minutes. Now, rinse them under running water.

Now, place these sticks on a kitchen napkin. Pat them dry using a cloth. Once they are dry, deep fry them in hot oil. Stir them often for uniform cooking. Once the potatoes are half-fried, take them out. Put them on a tissue paper and let them cool.

Once the half-cooked fries cool down, fry them again until they turn golden in colour. Sprinkle salt, red chilli powder or herbs to enhance the flavour.

Cheese Nachos

Take out those Nachos in a bowl, add some grated cheese and chopped veggies. We suggest tomatoes, onions and bell peppers. Now, put in microwave for a minute or until the cheese melts. Your cheese nachos are ready.

Mozzarella Sticks

For some more cheese craving, we bring you the recipe of the heavenly mozzarella sticks. Firstly, mix two eggs with ¼ cup of water in a bowl. In another bowl, put some flour. In the third bowl, put bread crumbs.

Now, cut mozzerella cheese into sticks. Coat each stick with flour and then dip in egg-water mix. Roll the stick in bread crumbs. Now, dip in eggs and then bread crumbs again before frying it in hot oil. Fry until cheese sticks turn golden in colour or cheese starts leaking.

Pro tip: For best results, freeze the coated sticks before frying.

Chana Chaat

Ending the list with this healthy and delicious snack recipe. Take boiled chana and add chopped onions, tomatoes and green chilli. Add salt and lemon juice. Mix well and keep munching while working. You can even have it as breakfast too.
